I agree with what you say but my experience is that a market maker will almost always short premium rather than the opposite. It's too easy to be taken out if your are long. "Move against the mark in the close," if by this you mean move the closing marks advantageously I agree that this is done but I think it's transitory and depends upon the liquidity
