Jane, Christians live as best they can by Gods law because we HAVE been saved by Grace. We don't do this TO be saved but because we HAVE BEEN saved, as you stated "Gods law being written in our hearts". You see, the Bible says " even the plowing of the wicked is sin, why, because it is Gods soil. The air we breath is His and if your not His child then your stealing from God. So, we do the works we do for God's Kingdom because we belong to Him, not so He will be impressed enough to allow us into His Kingdom, ONLY the precious BLOOD can cover our sin nature and we appear as though we had never sinned, all because of HIS GRACE. Grace NEVER provides an excuse to sin, Grace makes provision for forgiveness of the sin nature which ALL are born with. When we are born we have ONE nature, when we are "BORN AGAIN" we have TWO natures, spirit and flesh. There is a war between these two untill we are taken out of this world to be with God. Paul spoke of this war in Romans 7:15 through 16:4. Sence The Christian HAS been saved, is exorted to, SEE Colossians chapter 3, special attention given to verses 1-4 and the words "RISEN" "SEEK" "SET your effection". a wonderful message is in this chapter.
