Spiderman caught in legal web

The makers of the new Spider-Man film are being sued for removing adverts for Samsung from the background of scenes in the film.

Samsung is a competitor of Sony, who own Columbia Pictures.

The owners of several buildings in New York's Times Square have taken the makers to court over the changes, which replace the Samsung advert with one for the USA Today newspaper.

"We think it is inappropriate to substitute your own image for the one that exists," said Anthony Costantini, a lawyer for the building owners.

The Samsung advertisement was also changed in some TV commercials for the film. A spokesman for Columbia Pictures in Los Angeles declined to comment.

The film, starring Tobey Maguire as the Marvel Comics superhero, is scheduled to be released on May 3.
