Eric L: Thanks for the care with which you outline what Edge can be expected to do and that it is likely to be a near term "solution" as a TDMA and GSM add on to permit more robust data than currently for those systems.

As you know, I have learned to respect your technical judgement in this field and look forward to any clarification you provide - such as your recent post # 14478.

Having also learned that Dr J is a cautious man, his flat out prediction that the efficient path to 3rd gen leads through CDMA seems direct and clear.

He has also said that the 1XRTT handset chips are available now and those for the base stations will be available in March. And that the roll out of 1XRTT will be this year (toward the end) and HDR early next year. And that 1XRTT has been approved as a standard. And that 1XRTT is a no brainer for adoption since it carries a doubling of voice capacity along with its enhanced data rate.

Do you disagree with any of Dr J's statements as I understand them?

That is in two parts of course. Do I summarize his views accurately, and/or do you agree with their substance?

Best as always.

Cha2

PS I notice the wording in your last para of your not now adding to the Q because......
But as I recall you seemed to think that China, or the "third leg" or other as yet unforseen factors might cause you to add in the future, no?
