burn - yea it is a simple thing. But for less than $100 I get 8 calibrated temperature sensors, all of the fan sensor cables, and the logic device to set the trip points, along with the logic to shut down the system if a predetermined set of events happens. Also an LCD display to show status and settings. The parts alone would cost more than that, and most of those parts are not actually available at radio shack, you have to go to a specialty instrumentation house. Most good quality new MBs come with the right chipsets to provide that stuff out of the box. This solution is for those who want to take older boxes, or those new boxes that somehow avoided using an instrumented chipset, and get workstation or server level monitoring capability.
