>Z, whether Arafat is guilty as charged or not, he has not been tried so what right do the Israelis have from keeping him from seeing the EU representatives. My God, that's treating him like his an indentured servant. Can you not see how that would be offensive to the Palestinians? Our worst prisoners are permitted visitors.

Israel would love to try him. I believe the U.S. would love to as well. The Arabs won't allow this. Colin Powell did not want to meet with him at first, just as Bush won't, but decided to do so since none of the other Palestinians would have met with him if he didn't meet with Arafat. Now it looks like he won't meet with him, after the Al-Aqsa Brigades took responsibility for the suicide bombing today in Jerusalem and he didn't condemn it.

>Besides, we are talking about a leader of a state who may or may not be behind terrorists acts. If you believe he is guilty, then arrest him and put him on trial.........otherwise, this game is a charade that the Israelis are playing in order to maintain control without taking any responsibility for their actions.

Israel has presented every single possible smoking gun. They've found papers signed by him to purchase bombs for the Al-Aqsa Brigades, they've found illegal weapons in his compound- including two barrels of chemical weapons, they've found yarmulkes to be used as disguises for gunmen going into Israel, and many other things. He also regularly incites violence. Also, in his compound with him at the moment are the men wanted for killing Israel's Tourism Minister, Rehavam Ze'evi, in 2001, as well as Fuad Shubaki (sp?), the guy responsible for the Karine-A weapons ship affair- the one where the PA tried to smuggle in 50 tons of illegal weapons and missiles from Iran in January.

Before you say that Israel fabricated all of it, like many of the Palestinians do, know that Israel was tipped off to the weapons ship by the CIA, and not its own intelligence forces. This is why the American leaders are so sure he's a terrorist.

I've got plenty more, if you want it.
