Jewell, you make two points. First, you point out that the Russia/Chechnya terror attacks have their origin in years, or decades of conflict between what Russia wants and what the "terrorists" want. I agree.

Second, you seem unable to comprehend the point of my post.

Your first point simply reinforces the points I was making. I wasn't simply bashing Bush, I was bashing that point of view that believes that being "tough" on terrorists and using blunt military in an attempt to quash them will "win the war on terror."

Now do you see it? My point is that Russia is "tough on terror." In fact Russia is brutal on terror. Russia has also used blunt military force in Chechnya. Now just exactly how did that "win the war on terror" for them? How will it win the war on terror for us?

Russia, like us, will have to use law enforcement techniques, policy changes and public relations to secure safety from terror. They will "win the war on terror" when the Chechyan people who are willing to die for what they view as essential rights that the Russians are interfering with, suddenly decide that the "terrorists" are wrong and then withdraw their support for them. Otherwise the "terror" will continue.

The continuance of terror is not necessarily the final issue. There are times and issues that require that a nation take a stand and take the "terror" hits. I was only pointing out that being "tough" and using military force have almost NOTHING to do with winning a war on terror.
