A member of my family tried your strategy in January 1990. Things went very well, especially in May 1990 when Windows 3.0 came out. Things deteriorated in June as people took profits. They became really ugly when Sadam visited Kuwait. A 100k portfolio became a MINUS portfolio in August 1990 and settled in at MINUS 15k in October. Fortunately I had enough equity to guarantee this account and the position wasn't forced to close. In January 1991, bombs dropped on Bagdad and the market came to life and saved our bacon. I wouldn't recommend using margin heavily unless you have the resources to weather some seriously tough times. When you see someone close to you wiped out, it really brings the dangers into focus.
