The immediate issue between us in this discourse is the very nature of an "enslaved" people and their ability or inability to fight. But I also discuss the amazing spread of democracy throughout the Mediterranean world of 480 B.C. It spread, simply put, because it WORKED to create a very creative and dynamic society that other societies quickly had to EMULATE for competitive reasons. I now ask Ed to post his reply on this thread. (Note: My posts are long and indirect and may not be suitable for some here.)

Ed and I have also discussed the ability of one nation to OCCUPY another and the amount of resistance that occupation NECESSARILY engenders. Ed has not truly answered the gravamen of my post which I give you below.

I would like to engage you in a meaningful discussion of the compatibility of Muslim religion and democracy. But that will have wait as I want to give it some thought.
