Re managed care switching patients from Lipitor to Zocor to save money:

Seems to have happened to me at Kaiser, but I'm kicking and screaming until they send me more Lipitor (I've been on Lipitor for 4 years now). I was out of Lipitor refills and used Kaiser's web site to order more. Next thing I know I've got Zocor in the mail with a note on the bottle that it's a substitute for Lipitor.

My Dr. never bothered to discuss the change with me. This is typical Kaiser, since if the Dr. had looked at my chart he would have seen that I had tried Zocor and was switched to Lipitor because of side effects from Zocor. Only reason I can think that the dr. did the switch was that he got a directive to prescribe Zocor and not Lipitor.
