Engineering and science students are usually as political as a stone.

I don't see what the politics of the students has to do with this. The question is whether the students are apt. It's difficult to produce a cadre of apt science students where school boards have so little understanding of science that they consider ID to be science and design the curriculum accordingly, for example. If we can't raise enough young scientists of our own, we need to import them. There are some jobs in this country, like the Supreme Court and like research science, where you need to have a keen, well-trained mind.
