hi will

thanks very much for the kind words about the group. you've sure got that right.

regarding duplicate files, let me tell you what i have on my w2kpro. or more precisely, what i don't have. i don't have all the duplicate win\font and win\sys32 files you've noted. they are all WINNT files.

i think it's okay to delete the duplicates, given that you want to run a cleaner machine. if the deletion causes a prob, which i doubt, there's always recycle bin. or if you use an uninstaller program (like norton's cleansweep), compressed backups can be automatically made of all uninstalls, which are then kept around for like 30 days, at which time you can adios them if there have been no probs.

i took a look at the size of the WINNT folders you mentioned. on my system, the WINNT folder itself is 862mb. inside of that, the fonts folder is 10mb and the driver folder inside the sys32 folder (493mb) is 13mb. if you have comparable-sized duplicate win folders, you'd really be freeing up ground to lose them.

as for good win2000pro sites, here are a couple forums with some knowledgeable contributors...

and this winmag.com site for powerwin2000 (going through all the back issues is great!)...

hope this helps. please feel free to post more on this if you'd like.

:)
