You are absolutely right, but someone has to initiate the transaction. If they are buying the stock goes up if they are selling the stock goes down, simple supply and demand.

The real time service I have tells me if it is a bid or an ask but only as the trade goes through, so when the next trade goes through I lose the information on the previous trade. The service only records your standard historical information
