[Shoul Eisenberg]

Hi Pat,

yes, it can get remarkably quiet around here, like the only sounds are the refrigerator hummin and the screen door knocking in the wind..

and this is more the rule than the exception ... a flurry of activity, and then back to watching the grass grow.. but am thinking posting might pick up any day now.. ;) ...

and the thread sometimes is kind of like the stock, volume dries up before announcements.. ;) ...

china seems tangential (near term) to the european front, but find it reassuring that efforts are being made to lay the groundwork, for future markets...

fwiw... am sending along some orctf china related odds and ends.. maybe not particularly relevant and you may know most of this... but thought maybe not, and in any case, maybe others might find them useful or at least interesting...

the first orctf china news was May 97 (pr below): orctf hdsl was included as part of the China National Frame Relay Network Project... no news since that i know of other than this contract was somewhat open ended and there were some revenues in 97... at the time Macroview Telecom was listed as orctf's marketing partner (link below)

yesterdays press release (included below for the record) includes a new relationship in addition to macroview, with udi limited... have not been able to find much on them, but udi is part of eisenberg group, and it turns out they hail from israel and seem to be a pretty big deal..

and the eisenberg group is named after shoul eisenberg... am including his story as i found it interesting with it's own germany/ japan/israel theme..

best wishes

Industrialist Shoul Eisenberg dies in China
By Jerusalem Post Staff

JERUSALEM (March 28, 1997) -- Shoul Eisenberg, chairman of the Israel Corporation and one of the country's most influential industrialists, died yesterday in Beijing, apparently of a heart attack.

Eisenberg, 76, was also president of the Eisenberg Group of Companies.

After fleeing Germany in 1938, he eventually settled in Japan, where he founded companies that after World War II supplied raw materials to Japanese steel industries.

He expanded his operations to include a wide range of industrial concerns in Asia, South America, Europe, and Israel, moving here with his family in the 1960s.

He took a particularly active role in trading and investing in China, and was widely regarded for many years as an intermediary between the communist regime and Israel.

He played a pivotal role in facilitating a breakthrough in Israel-China relations, culminating in full diplomatic ties.

Eisenberg's interests in Israel were centred on Israel Corporation, which controls Israel Chemicals, the country's largest industrial concern; the Zim Israel Navigation shipping line; Shikun Ufituah, one of the country's largest construction firms, and Oil Refineries Ltd.

He has been awarded the Jerusalem 3000 Award, Legion of Honneur, Austrian Merit Decoration and a Highest Korean Merit Decoration.

He is survived by his widow, Lea, five daughters, and a son, Erwin, who in recent years has assumed key roles in a number of Eisenberg's companies.
