It may be a good deal for the IFMX stockholders that came along when IFMX got eaten by its last acquisition, but it's the end of the line for people that think of IFMX as a database company. It's probably the best thing to do for all of the stockholders -- IFMX had completely lost the database wars, and you don't find a chump with $1B every day. If they hadn't sold out to IBM, the most likely alternative was for them to sell out to CA, and that's the worst thing that can happen to the employees.

It makes me sad to see this happen, since I had a number of ties to IFMX (although I haven't been a stockholder for years). The company is now like George Washington's hatchet -- they've changed the handle and the head, and pretty soon they'll rename it to a claw hammer...
