The U.S. House’s Resources Committee advanced legislation today designed to lock ANWR drilling into the budget process and to open up offshore gas and oil drilling outside the Gulf of Mexico.

The bill advanced by the margin of 27-16. Democrat amendments to strip the bill of its ANWR and offshore drilling provisions were defeated by the margin of 28-14.

The bill now moves on to the full House, at which time it will pass with one of those “slim majorities” about which the media gets confused and gloomy.

The Senate also is working on spending bills in which ANWR and offshore drilling are included.

Separately, the House Energy and Commerce Committee is about to advance legislation designed to spur the construction of new oil refineries. You know, to help cure that refining problem about which everyone keeps bitching and complaining?!

P.S. - Here’s Pravda-AP’s version of events.

"House GOP Uses Storms to Ease Energy Laws"

Nice headline, eh? And the story even is more biased than the headline. {glug, glug, glug}
