David, it is not likely that you will get flamed here for being off topic, unless it is a very heavy news day on the Clinton scandals. It is nice to see that you started a thread, however.
I remember reading something about quitting smoking which said that if you were really having trouble doing so, you needed to be evaluated by a psychologist, because it was quite likely you were using cigarettes to self-medicate. It is plenty hard to quit without having any particularly nasty mental disorders, so I imagine it is quite a bit harder if you require nicotine to calm you down every half hour, for example.
In my own family, my father had a history of depression, which was never treated. He threw himself into his work, and smoking, to cope. It was VERY hard for him to quit, and he waited much too long. Now he has an oxygen tank to help him breathe. |
