Scrapps, here's my latest email and reply to CNET about there x2 coverage.

I am outraged ay Katie Barnes x2 article. Here is a quote:

(U.S.Robotics has promised that its modems will be upgradable
to the yet-to-be-defined standards, but hasn't said whether
that will involve a hardware upgrade.)

USR's 56k modems and modems upgradable to 56k use software (Flash Rom) upgrades. I cannot believe this is not mentioned. USR will be able to upgrade (via software) to any standard that is established. This is not mentioned.

> CNET: There is no guarantee that any agreed-upon standard will work with all existing x2 modems. We certainly expect that it will, but if you know anything about the complexity of POTS standards you know nothing is for sure.

CNET is losing credibility by misinforming the public like this. I have
to wonder if the fact that Intel is one of your investors that has
something to do with this? This is an OUTRAGE! There is also no mention of the FCC mandated 53 kbps limitation imposed on modem manufacturers.

> CNET:That is indeed the case, though it is more of a regulatory issue. Note that in our testing, even when we connected at the 53kbps rate we never got even close to that in real download performance. We do not think the eventual bump to full 56k will affect it that much--that's about a five percent bump, if and when the FCC approves the final 56k standard.
