They have mandatory ID, which we don't.

Sure we do... at our borders.
It does not stop illegal immigration.
And it doesn't in Europe even though lots of European countries have mandatory ID policies. Getting around European border checkpoints is a piece of cake. And a lot of checkpoints don't bother to check IDs.

We have mandatory ID to work here too. It is called a Social Security card. It too is not as mandatory as one might think.
We have millions of undocumented workers using fake SS cards or getting paid under the table.
Ditto for Western Europe.
