Speaking to your second question:

--components that are combined into a virus are living
--if when the components combine (analagous to a chemical reaction) a new "body" is formed
--IF THE COMBINATION IS SUCCESSFUL, it MAY be joined by
energy and consciousness elements which will enable it to continue in its existing form, live a normal life cycle, etc.

If not, the new combination dies and collapses (over time) back into their constituent elements.

LIFE is present through the whole process. In Vedanta the process is referred to as:

-- Creation (ongoing)
-- Preservation
-- Destruction

We are talking here about observable life relative to a given form.(a virus, in your example).

In short:

-- everything is always already living

-- scientists never create life but can set up processes in which life occurs in particular ways, just like they can set up combinations of chemicals which produce chemical reactions and generate new outcomes.

Namaste!
