Elmer, >TOKYO (Nikkei)NEC Corp. (NIPNY or 6701) will commercialize by the end of 2002 a personal computer server that can simultaneously operate 512 microprocessor units made by Intel Corp. (INTC), the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reports in its Tuesday morning edition, citing company sources. Connecting the MPUs in parallel gives the server a processing capability similar to that of a supercomputer. NEC has long been one of the leaders in supercomputer technology development, even though most observers think of them as a chip company. Hopefully, this product and application will be a keeper.
