Merced is already several years into development and it looks like both Microsoft and HP will be delivering Merced's first OS. Intel is certainly a fantastic short term investment, after that, words fail to describe. -------------------------->>>>>>

For the past few years, HP and Intel have been jointly developing a next-generation 64-bit microprocessor architecture that will deliver unprecedented performance while maintaining full compatibility with both PA-RISC and x86 applications. Merced (formerly known as P7) is the codename of the first implementation of this architecture, to be offered by Intel. Merced will be the first of a family of processors using the IA-64 architecture. HP plans to develop Merced-based systems that will be compatible with both PA-RISC applications and Intel's IA-32 applications. While we're not yet ready to provide specific details about system performance and availability, I can tell you that the joint development effort is progressing extremely well.
