Gluttony means to overindulge; to feed an insatiable appetite. And that's the way I meant it when I used the word, Shaq O'Neal notwithstanding.

The US appetite for oil is large but not insatiable. Its also not much of an overindulgence. True we do only produce 20% of the GDP on 25% of the oil use, but if that is overuse its like the person who is 10 or 15 lbs overweight and won't go on a diet. Its not like a 300lb tub of lard who eats everything in sight and is still gaining weight. In fact our oil use per real dollar of GDP has declined dramatically over the past few decades.
