Using tabs and enter keys to designate columns and rows.

Tab-delimited text files are nothing more than plain text files that contain "columns" of information separated by the TAB character, and "rows" of information separated by the "enter" character.

The TAB character is not just five or six spaces in a row. It is an actual character created by pressing the TAB key on your keyboard. The "hard return" character is not simply text wrapping to the next line. It is an actual character created by pressing the "Enter" key on your keyboard.
