Well, until you provide me with who the largest phone company in the world is I will have to assume that the press release was wrong and it is NTT. NTT had over $70 billion in sales the last 12 months. AT&T had $52 billion. If you throw in Lucent revenues (about $25 billion) you start to get a contest. NTT has twice the market cap of AT&T. Even AT&T + Lucent market cap doesn't add up to NTT.

Tokyo-- An official with the world's largest telecommunications company, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT) headquartered here, confirmed Tuesday that NTT has been approached by British Telecom, but also said that it is absolutely not interested.
