I thought China would make a "peace offering" by announcing that they are finally approving the Q/NXPI deal. They are not giving up anything in the sense the deal should have already been approved. There is little or no overlapping between the companies and the gesture would have gone a long way in easing or showing some goodwill in trade tension. By taking something off the board (Q), something that never should have been on the board in the first place China could make themselves look like they made a diplomatic and magnanimous move without having anything to lose, and something to gain in negotiations. Q should be a prerequisite, not a bargaining chip.

Again, I thought an immediate announcement (this week) that the NXPI approval was forthcoming. Instead they're going easy on grilled seaweed? Should I laugh or be insulted? There used to be an old saying, "what does all that have to do with the price of tea in China?" Its origin is quite understandable now.
