Gary, Re: "Don't fully understand what is meant by "eating their own future"...are they suggesting that AMD is rapidly using up any future improvements in the CPU to generate minuscle incremental revenues? If 0.13 u only results in a 0.1 Mhz bump in speed, does that suggest that AMD will NEVER reach 2 MHz?"

This is only a confirmation to a theory that we've had on the forums for quite some time. Many believed that AMD was narrowing their gate lengths on their .18u process up to and past the levels of .13u. This was to suggest that a move to a fully .13u process may give them a smaller die size and lower power (due to smaller transistor sizes and wiring), but actually not result in a performance increase. AMD seems to think otherwise, but it's interesting that they only mention .13u and SOI as being able to give themselves a performance boost, not just bulk .13u. I'm thinking that .13u SOI will help them to get to 2.0GHz, and maybe slightly beyond. .13u bulk won't get them past the 1.73GHz that is supposed to be the last "Palomino" to be released next year.
