Because this macro-economic issue (stagnation of real wages and wealth in the Middle Class) has been ongoing for at *least* 35 years now, perhaps even longer, it necessarily must be attributable to a variety of major economic / social trends of at least the same lengthy duration.

Tax policy.

Trade policy. (Including effects of foreign labor competition....)

Education policies (affecting our relative ability to compete in global markets for high wage jobs here, and the ability of our corporations as well).

Demographic factors.

No ONE Presidency, no ONE Congress bears even a fraction of the total blame to go around for this failure.

The 'American Miracle' has *always* been about the emergence and continued success of our Middle Classes... to lose sight of that fact and to undercut the Middle Class is to completely lose sight of what has made America economically exceptional.
