Thanks Dwight, I do have a regular surge protector on my PC, but I did not have one on the phone line at the time of the surge that took out the modem and motherboard. The technician that serviced my system told me to buy a phone line surge protector, they do help. I doubt if anything is 100%. He said he is getting more and more calls with the greater number of people being online, and it's because of a phone line surge. I think I paid about $40 for the surge protector which I highly recommend as "insurance" for anyone, like I said I was under warranty so it didn't cost me, otherwise I would have been looking at probably $300 or so. bp
