Scrapps, I was merely pointing out that lightening strikes, ground surges can be a problem since that was my experience. The technician that repaired my computer said that the surge came thru the phone line and as a result my Sportster 28 was fried, also my motherboard. So perhaps it would be prudent to protect your system with a phone line surge protector if there is no protective device built in to the modem. bp

edit: BTW where is Jef, haven't heard from him in a while.
