WOULD A COUNTRY FULL OF INFIDELS DO THIS?
6.25.2007

In 2006, Americans gave almost $300 billion to charitable causes. That's a country of less than 300 million giving $300 billion. That's even more than in 2005 when Katrina hit and the early days of giving for the Tsunami the December before. This country that everyone accuses of being selfish and apathetic is full of very giving people. Not that comparing is necessary, but this is twice as much as the next most charitable country. In philanthropic giving as a percentage of gross domestic product, the U.S. ranked first at 1.7 % with Britain at 0.73%. France gave 0.14%, which is less than South Africa, Singapore, Turkey and Germany.

And the bulk was not from major corporations or foundations. 75.6% came from individuals. About 65% of homes with incomes less than $100K gave to charity. We focused our giving on religious efforts and education.
And yes, there are a lot of people who give for PR purposes or tax breaks, but so what? The food that goes into a homeless child's mouth fills his belly just as much. Americans set record for charity in 2006 - Yahoo! News
