TORONTO, ONTARIO--
..............with its 50% Joint Venture Partner, Freewest Resources Canada Inc. (FWR: TSE & ME) is also pleased to release assay results from the first three drill holes in a five hole drill program recently completed on the Folson Lake PGE-Cu+Ni property located in Gerow Township approximately 80 km west of Sudbury, Ontario. The 20 claim (320 hectare) property covers a 2 km length of the basal portion of the East Bull Lake Intrusion which has been identified by the Ontario Geological Survey as a favourable horizon for platinum group element (PGE) and associated copper and nickel mineralization. The first three holes in the program tested the "Valhalla" showing discovered in August, 1998 where the best grab sample returned 6.6 g/t palladium, 2.8 g/t platinum, 8.3 g/t silver, 0.3 g/t gold, 1.79% copper and 0.66 % nickel. The following combined palladium-platinum intervals were obtained:
Hole From (m) To (m) Width (m) Pt+Pd (g/t)
321-99-01 0.2 50.6 50.4 0.62 including 13.3 16.1 2.8 1.93 27.9 30.15 2.25 1.69
321-99-02 2.1 54.5 52.4 0.58 including 24.9 33.5 8.6 1.06
321-99-03 4.8 34.7 29.9 0.71 including 14.O 24.0 10.0 1.13 Anomalous gold, silver, copper and nickel were also obtained within these intervals. The mineralization consists of very fine-grained, disseminated chalcopyrite and pyrrhotite ranging from 203% to 5-6% and occurs within the Inclusion Bearing Zone which consists of larger anorthosite and smaller pyroxenite inclusions within a gabbro-norite matrix and also within overlying medium-grained anorthosite. All three holes were collared in the mineralization and therefore the upper limit of the Pd-Pt zone remains unknown. The first two holes are located on Section 450 mW. The third hole is located on Section 500 mW. The remaining two holes in the drill program were drilled to test geophysical targets away from the Valhalla showing. Assay results are pending on these holes. Although the intersections are not ore-graded, they do indicate significant PGE mineralization over substantial widths. The Sparton/Freewest Joint Venture intends to continue exploration of the Folson Lake Property with further geophysical and geological surveys and diamond drilling. The samples were analyzed at X-Ral Laboratories Ltd. in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec by Fire Assay followed by Direct Coupled Plasma Finish for palladium, platinum and gold and Atomic Absorption Finish for silver, copper and nickel. Check assays confirm the initial results. |
