Ten, <<<, Maurice Green can sure run 200 yards in no time flat, but can he hit a golf ball that far with an 8-iron? Not in his lifetime.>>>
You don't have to be an athlete to be a great golfer. I don't think of Davis Love III as an athlete, but he is a great golfer. Tiger Woods is a great golfer, but I also think he is probably a great athlete. He could probably shoot pretty good basketball, would probably make a good quarterback, and could possibly reach the Major Leagues as a first baseman. The fact that he is an athlete, makes him a golfer that non athletic golfers will find very difficult to beat.
As for running, anybody can run. We probably all know virtual spastics and nerds who run a lot, can turn in some pretty good times.
But, to be world class, like Maurice Green, non athletes would have a difficult time to compete against Maurice Green.
But which athlete would I value more and admire more? That would be Tiger.
If you have the natural talents of Maurice Green, it doesn't take that much to reach that level of running.
If you have all the natural talents to be like Tiger Woods, it would take a lot more dedication and drive to do the things that Tiger does.
I can't define athleticism, but I can tell athleticism when I see it.
Pete Sampras, I believe, is a great athlete. He could probably have played major league baseball, or be a quarterback, or a receiver in football.
The Williams sisters are great athletes, but I don't think Martina Hingis is a great athlete.
