"I don't know, sorry I don't keep a voltage meter on my desk. I was only
saying that the way it was described in the article was the way it
happened to me. I'm not saying I blame the problem on the modem, I
simply have said that unless there is some type of built in protection
on your modem to "absorb" the surge before the damage gets to the
motherboard, then I would recommend that a phone line surge protector
might be a good idea."

Betty,

I agree a phone line surge protector is helpful. I actually have more difficulty with phone line surges causing problems rather than power lines. It may have a lot to do with the utilities in my area and their equipment quality. The Zoom article was close to comical because no modem can withstand the full brunt of a lightning strike. USRX has been taking market share from Zoom for quite sometime. It looked like a Zoom panick to me. I do not own any Zoom modems. I own many USRX modems. I have a Sporster x2 that arrived yesterday. My ISP has not upgraded to x2 as of yet but should be ready by next week. They are a good small ISP. My company has about a dozen modems and we blow one due to lightning about once per year. That is with surge protectors in use. That is what happens when you live in an area prone to storms. I never bought a modem with the thought if it could withstand a lightning hit. I buy them for features.
