Grace, The dumbing of fund names is something I see all the time. Or the use of "classes" of funds that exist nowhere else and are difficult to follow. I have one in my own account. It is a large fund offered by American Funds, who are decent managers. But it sells in the $50s while the regular fund in in the $12s. What's with that?

I have over 25 funds to choose from. Not one is small cap growth. Not one is small cap value. Not one is midcap growth or value. Not one is international income. Not one is natural resources of any sort. Not one is a convertible fund. There are no international mid cap or small caps. A bearish fund? Whatchoo talkin' bout, Willis?

I find this strange because we, as the owner of two fund families, one outstanding and one nearly respectable, have some of the best fund offerings in the biz in most of these areas. But they aren't offered to employees. Crazy!

And now they want to mangle Social Security by allowing folks to self-manage it. In all honesty, there are plenty of folks here on SI who would do a great job. But does anyone think the average investor could come out with the ability to retire when he or she is 95? No way, Joe C. <g>
