| I think behavior comes first, and then "excuses", as you put it, are devices we use to excuse our genetically driven behavior. In other words, we are born with impulses that our society tries to control in us, often by using shame. Sexual impulses, impulses for control over others, greed impulses (the satisfaction of hunger, lust, whatever), and it seems to me that all "non-innocence" is, is the point when humans understand the rules of society. Obviously children have to explore the landscape of what our society consider "wrong" and "right", but I'm not sure I see innocence and non-innocence as very meaningful. |
