Art,
Tom Demark did not say that moving averages are not worse than other indidators. Just that the traditional averages do no better or worse than others. His favorate is a two moving average system using a 55 and 13 day moving average. He doesn't buy or sell when they cross. Instead he buys on the first day they both move up and sells when they both move down. Only on the first day this happens. He does say he changes them based on a stocks own dynamics especially the longer MA. Don't go away mad! It is hard to access someones temperment sometimes when reading there posts. I meant for a meaningfull discussion not a bitter argument. Also my quick study of 200 day moving day average on IBM does put in the major moves. But its the wipsaws that kill you. It made almost $2000 dollars if you could trade without commissions. If you can somehow know if it is going to wipsaw it would work. If you know how I want to know. I use a simple moving average of a accumulation distribution indicator to keep my favorite indicator (basically an oversold/overbought indicator) from giving buy and sell signals when in a minor trend. Perhaps a filter or overbought/oversold indicator to smooth it out?
