Derek,

The 50 free hours with AOL is just that, 50 free hours of connect time. If you have local access there are no hidden charges. If you cancel before the month is up then it costs you nothing. However, to play with 56k you have to call long distance unless you live in NY, SF, Chicago, Skokie, or DC. AOL does have a toll-free option but they charge .10/minute for use of that line. For many this is cheaper than the long distance charges.
