I was talking to a friend in Seattle last night who told me that Boeing offers airlines secure cockpit access configurations on their planes as an option. That really does seem to be the way to go to prevent future occurrences of hijacking.

I fly frequently, domestically and internationally, and I've been struck by the difference in security priorities between US and foreign airports. Most foreign airports gave boarding passengers a thorough going over and tend to breeze through arriving passengers.

In the US, it's the exact opposite. While a few untrained minimum wage workers make a perfunctory check at departure gates, most of the resources and personnel are directed at Customs and arrivals. Bass ackwards priorities, if you ask me.
