Jack, certainly it is always better to quit than continue to smoke, regardless of how many pack years you have been at it. I know I felt a lot better when I did, and that in itself is important. Plus, it just doesn't feel good to be addicted to nicotine, or anything else for that matter. When I think of my father with his oxygen tank, I have to remember that there is a much larger probability he would already be dead from a smoking-related illness than alive at 76 if he had not quit when he did.
