Dan, it is gratifying to communicate with someone who has had some experiences in the bargaining process. I served
12 1/2 where I bargained over 200 labor contracts. Then, I moved over on the management side in a consulting and university teaching role. In the MBA programs I used many case studies and role playing sessions for managers and potential managers in all areas of labor relations.

It was rewarding to see the progress of students as they learned more about how to implement different styles of management, and treat employees with dignity which helped them to keep out unions. Naturally, much of management studies evolved from William Edwards Deming, who was sent to Japan to resurrect their industries after the war. Then, Japan began to eat our lunch. Can we trace the beginning of the US downfall back to this time? It would be an interesting study.
