Firm to Give Research Schools Super-Fast Computer Services
Washington Post - Tuesday, April 14, 1998; Page C05

A Colorado company will announce today that it will provide $500
million worth of transmission services to a computer network that is
to connect selected universities at speeds 1,000 times faster than
the commercial Internet, according to senior White House and academic
officials familiar with the plan.

Qwest Communications International Inc. of Denver, which operates
fiber-optic lines, will provide the connection services to a consortium
of research universities that are working on a project called Internet2,
the officials said.
