Re: "if i need a 64 bit workstation/server to run gate level regressions, ia64 is the last machine which comes to mind." Fortunately for Intel, a lot of businesses feel differently. Itanium may not be exactly flying off the shelves, but there are a ton of software developers that feel boldly enough in favor of Itanium's success, that they are taking the time to port their applications over to the new architecture.
