I lived and worked in Japan for a while - I would add that, compared to the U.S., many more young adults - especially young women - live with their parents. So, they have much more disposable income.

And, given the importance of Tokyo to the total economy, many couples stay and work in that area and eventually take over one of their parents' homes - again, very different than U.S.

Luxury goods sales are not what they once were in Tokyo, however.
