re: Of course, some actually believed the lies the Taliban were spreading and questioned the effectiveness of America's military campaign. Oh well, I guess that was to be expected. (The same questions arose during the war in Kosovo and the Gulf War, and both times the skeptics were proved wrong.)

Actually, I think our own military was surprised at how fast the Taliban has capitulated. But it's always better strategy to over-estimate your enemy than to under-estimate your enemy.
