I looked at the CR report on smartphones, and I concur that the results are so close as to render the recommendations meaningless.

Henry Blodgett's piece uses a fanciful phrase of his own, calling the iPhone 5 the "worst of the top smartphones." It comes in third, with an overall rating of 77, for AT&T phones, after the LG Optimus G (79) and the Samsung Galaxy S III (78), which are one and two. So we're talking about a spread of two points between the iPhone and the Optimus.

CR doesn't refer to the iPhone as the "worst of the top smartphones." So I'd say Blodgett isn't telling the unvarnished truth.
