Two issues -

1 - Do they live longer but enjoy life less?

2 - From your link

"Immediately after the publication of the surprising study, the National Sleep Foundation denounced it, claiming that the study was wrought with flaws. The study participants, despite the large sample population, were not randomly selected, but were friends and family of the researchers. The study’s purpose was not even to study the effects of long sleep; its initial purpose was to analyze the causes and effects of cancer.

Even if these flaws can be set aside, the motto of statistics still applies: correlation does not imply causation. Perhaps people who sleep longer get that extra sleep because they are sick, and people who sleep less are busier and healthier. The study, due to the fact that it was not intended to study the effects of different amounts of sleep, never isolated the variables of sleep length and mortality rate. "
