According to the latest news it might have been the air traffic controller's fault. Apparently he knew for over 10 minutes that the two planes were on a collision course but didn't do anything until 50 seconds before they crashed.


Andreas, you're right!

The news here has been changed to reflect this new accounting of what happened. Somehow, it makes it much worse. Apparently, the Swiss air controller was asleep on the job. What a mess!

Did you know the Russian flight was not a regularly scheduled one? According to the news story, the kids had missed their connecting flight in Moscow, and so, their chaperones had asked the airline to make a special charter to Barcelona so that the kids would not have their holiday cut short........really sad.
