Looks like AMAT reported a not so great quarter and same kind of prediction for the next two. Just read a couple of quickie summaries and read the posts on the AMAT thread since their quarterly announcement came out after hours today. I used to tout the AMAT thread as one of the best, but noticed very little coverage of the CC on the thread. At the risk of patting myself on the back a little, wish they were 1/4 as good as here, Still, If I didn't do a thing, we have Maui Dude, Wanna BMW, Amy J (when she isn't whipping that startup into shape). Sorry if I missed anyone.
For some reason, Intel's capex is one of the very first items they are asked about, and it's a bellwether item for the semi markets. 7.5 billion, how many times did we hear it asked of Intel if they'd spend it or not (they did or will). For next year, Intel's capex is rumored, that I've seen, to down 10 - 15% (think) to as low as in the $5 billions (think). From my limited view, I would think next year would be significantly lower than 10 - 15% down, since Intel spent so godawful much this year. The street, being not too bright, will get used to that 7.5 number, though, and anything in the low sixes on down will disappoint them. I'm guessing AMAT's gloomy outlook is telling us something, but hey, let someone else spend like a drunken sailor for a while. Glad I sold my AMAT a little bit ago, because I thought this would happen, and flame on about the "retroactive info". Not you Fin (unless you want to).
