KDDI, Williams Commun In Comprehensive Business Tie-Up

18 Jul 04:45

TOKYO (Dow Jones)--KDDI Corp. (J.KDD or 9433) said Wednesday it and Williams
Communications Group Inc. (WCG) of the U.S. have formed a comprehensive tie to
allow mutual use of each other's services in Japan and to jointly develop new
services and businesses.

Under the deal, KDDI will offer global solutions such as data, audio and
video applications by using Williams' network resources.

Williams Communications will be able to tap KDDI's network resources to
expand the service coverage area for its customers.

Given Williams' huge fiber-optic network of over 40,000 miles and the
company's knowledge in the broadband field, KDDI said it will be able to
develop and deliver video content suited for the global broadband market.

Japan's second-largest telecom company also said it and Williams
Communications will jointly develop other services such as Internet protocol
services, and will consider joint development of data center businesses.

KDDI shares ended down 2.8% Wednesday on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The Nikkei
shed 2% to 11892.58.
